The Executive Chairman of the Isoko-North Council, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, has taken decisive action by banning the activities of scavengers commonly referred to as "Iron Condemn" within the local government area.
This decision was announced by Hon. Godwin Ogorugba during a comprehensive security meeting attended by traditional rulers, presidents general, and heads of security agencies.
The Chairman expressed that the activities of these scavengers have become a significant concern due to their involvement in various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, the sale of illicit drugs, and vandalism. He stated, "These scavengers pose a serious threat to the lives and properties of the people of Isoko North," prompting the council to resolve that they must vacate the local government area within 20 days.
Furthermore, the Chairman urged residents who have rented or leased their land to these scavengers to take immediate action to evict them within the designated timeframe. The council will no longer tolerate activities that undermine the community's livelihoods and businesses.
Ogorugba also warned that any landlord or resident who fails to comply with the directive to remove the scavengers from their land by December 22, 2024, will face intervention from security agencies, leading to the eviction of the scavengers and the seizure of the land as government property. He emphasized, "They cannot use their business activities to jeopardize our means of livelihood, properties, and safety."
The council Chairman, Hon. Ogorugba, extended his heartfelt appreciation to all residents of Isoko North for their solidarity and support of his administration. He promised to continue working in the best interest of the people of Isoko North to further the "More Agenda" of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State.
